Stolen Dog Chained To Concrete Block And Dumped In Canal Reunites with Family
A dog’s family is “feeling blessed that he is home safe and well” after he was stolen and then dropped in a canal with a block of concrete chained to him.
Sinead Duffy’s family were devastated when their Samoyed, Snowy, was snatched from their garden in their Coalisland home in Northern Ireland on Friday June 14, 2019. But little did they know that Snowy would become victim to an “obscene act of animal cruelty.”
Whoever stole Snowy put a chain around his neck with a concrete block to weigh him down and trap and drown him in the water.
Fortunately, the city’s Council Enforcement Officers found Snowy in the canal in time and pulled him out of the water.
PSNI Dungannon & South Tyrone rescued the Samoyed, cleaned him up and brought him to Mid Ulster Rehoming Centre for Dogs to be looked after. They posted a picture of the dog on Facebook and wrote, “a disgusting attack on a defenceless dog in Coalisland” before appealing for information.

They later learned the dog was stolen and had been with the Duffy family for seven years. Sinead also took to Facebook to express the family’s relief but anger at whoever took their dog.
She wrote:
“This is our family dog Snowy that has been part of our family for the last seven years. Snowy was taken yesterday from our back garden and maliciously chained to a concrete block and left to die in the canal. We are appealing for anyone that has any information to please come forward, this is an attack on our dog and an attack on our family! We are deeply devastated that this has happened to him. We would like to thank the people that saved him very much, and we are blessed that he is home safe and well.”
Thousands of dog lovers voiced their concern and support. One responded, “How cruel, he is so lucky.” Another wrote, “I’m so glad he’s safe. I hope you find the cowardly scum who did this.” Another wrote: “Hopefully those responsible are caught and can never do this again.”
The family also wants the individuals responsible caught. “We as a family are asking anyone that has any information please please come forward as this is the most obscene act of cruelty to an innocent pet,” wrote Sinead. Anyone with information is asked to contact 028 8773 8861.
