Man Creates Special Project to Help Prevent Dogs from Being Left in Hot Cars

“Hundreds of dogs die in hot cars every summer. It’s sad and completely preventable. People are either careless or don’t know the dangers. Either way it has to stop,” wrote Mark Moll.

In order to try and combat the problem and raise awareness in local neighborhoods, Mark created a project in pictures and called it “73 days of Summer, 73 Safe Parking Spots”.

Going to neighborhoods throughout Chicago last summer, Mark used chalk to convey a simple message and left everyday dog items (like bowls, leashes, or toys) to further accent the parking spot.

Mark told DogHeirs that the project went on all summer long and many people in the neighborhood would stop and thank him for doing it. “Hopefully it left an impression and saved a few dogs,” he said.

“Doing the message in the actual spot where the problem occurs was my goal,” he said. “It was very impactful and immediate.”

“Hopefully people saw these and thought twice about putting their dog in harm’s way,” Mark wrote. “If I helped save one life then it was worth it.”
