Police Officer Helps Pull Dog From Hot Car, Adopts Him A Month Later

A New York Police Officer who helped rescue a dog from a hot car has adopted him. It was a 80 degrees Fahrenheit (26 C) in June when concerned citizens called 911 to report a dog had been left in a car with the windows closed and had allegedly been inside for several hours.

If it’s 80 degrees outside, the inside temperature inside a car will be 99 degrees within 10 minutes.

Several officers responded to the call and broke the car’s window to free the dog. The dog was eager to get out of the vehicle and Officer Aruna Maharaj helped pull the fluffy white dog from the car. Good Samaritans provided food and water to the exhausted dog.

NYPD 19th Precinct tweeted the video of the dog’s rescue.

The NYPD later said that the dog’s 26-year-old male owner was charged with animal cruelty.

During the rescue, Officer Maharaj took an instant liking to the pup. The dog went to the vet hospital and later to the ASPCA. Officer Maharaj must have kept tabs on the sweet pup, because a month later she decided to adopt him.

“A month ago, this sweet doggo was rescued after his owner left him in his hot locked car for hours; yesterday, one of its rescuers, Officer Maharaj, adopted him! Thank you @ASPCA for taking such good care of this lucky pup,” NYPD 19th Precinct tweeted.

They shared a picture of Officer Maharaj and the dog greeting each other on his “Gotcha day”.

From the way the dog greets her, we’d say the dog definitely remembers her!
