Tiny Yorkie Born By Mistake and Facing Many Health Challenges Gets the Mom He Deserves
A tiny puppy born by mistake was going to be put down by his owner but was saved thanks to a wonderful rescuer. Toby came from an accidental breeding and was born with hydrocephalus and his back legs didn’t work. He weighed a mere 16 ounces and fit in the palm of a hand!
Toby’s original owner had him for 5 weeks and told a friend of hers that she decided to put him down. Kit from Florida Yorkie Rescue was contacted because they help dogs with special needs and she took him immediately. “Every life is worth living,” she said of Toby’s rescue.
Within a short time he received a tiny custom-made wheelchair to help him get around and the medical care he needed. Kit knows Toby will need a lot of medical care but she said, “Toby knows he’s safe. He knows he’s wanted.”
Kit explained why she started Florida Yorkie Rescue, “There’s a lot of [Yorkies] down here in Florida because it’s apartment and condo living. It’s a disposable society and as soon as things start to get difficult, people don’t want to deal with it. I embrace all the challenges. I’m not saying it’s easy because it’s not easy. But I just think every life has value.”
And Toby’s life was valued tremendously and he knew it too. Toby spent two years surrounded by love and care. Florida Yorkie Rescue shared that on September 11, 2023 Toby passed over Rainbow Bridge.
“Our irreplaceable tiny courageous little boy died this morning in the emergency room,” wrote Florida Yorkie Rescue. “Among the many things he was challenged with over the past two years, he passed from an enlarged heart and congestive heart failure. We have all lost our beloved mascot. Our grief has left us gutted. God bless my precious baby boy.”
