Dog with ‘Only Child Syndrome’ Realizes He Wants to Be Big Brother to Newborn Baby
Kobe the Golden Retriever definitely had ‘Only Child Syndrome’ but when his mom, Alexis, got pregnant he knew something was up.
“Early in the pregnancy he started laying his head on my belly and that was not a thing he was doing before. When we were setting up the nursery Kobe tried to be super involved,” says Alexis.
Kobe wanted to help out his parents with the preparations but ended up taking pieces of the stroller away and snatching the baby’s new stuffed toys instead.
But when baby Danielle arrived, Kobe couldn’t wait to meet her. His eyes bulged out his head in excitement when he first got to see his baby sister. Now he doesn’t like to be away from her side. It sure looks like Kobe’s ‘Only Child Syndrome’ has been replaced by ‘Protective Big Brother Syndrome’.
Alexis says, “It was nice to see Kobe be really really interested in her because I know that they’re going to be a big part of each other’s lives…He doesn’t like to be a away from her at night when we get up and feed her, the dog will come into the nursery with us lay down beside Danielle…the best word to describe him as a big brother is protective.”
His folks say Kobe still demands lots of attention, but he’s adapting really well and learning to be the best big brother.
