Dog Found Shivering from the Cold in ‘Frost-Covered Crate’ Breaks Hearts of Shelter Staff

When the staff at Humane Society of Catawba County (HSCC) first laid eyes on Marco, the dog was shivering inside a “frost-covered crate” that had been dumped on their property.

“Found all alone, abandoned in a frost-covered crate, and shivering from staying out in the cold overnight, Marco was left on our property in a cage too small, severely malnourished, and scared to death,” the North Carolina animal shelter wrote on Facebook on February 2nd.

Marco was afraid of being touched, he “flinched as if he had been hit and hurt before.” The staff wrote, “This poor guy had obviously never been shown what love is…Our hearts broke for this poor dog.”

But soon Marco realized his rescuers were there to help him after which “all he wanted to do was to curl up in our laps and give us kisses.”

Marco went into foster care and gained weight and began working on crate and house training. They soon noted that the “sweet and fun little guy” was ready for adoption.

HSCC added, “Whatever he experienced in the past, it hasn’t dulled his ‘sparkle.'”

He gets along with kids, cats and some dogs too. The shelter added, “Marco is so happy to simply be with you and enjoy life.”

Humane Society of Catawba County wanted Marco to go directly from foster to a new family home and they got their wish. A few days after announcing Marco was ready for a loving home a couple saw his story and adopted him. “This sweet boy has found his happy place,” HSCC announced on February 6th.

They added, “Congratulations Marco on your new family. We are excited for you!”
