Severely Matted Dog Buried Under Fur Wags His Tail As Rescuers Groom Him

A senior dog buried under piles of dirty, matted fur has a brand new life thanks to his rescuers. Animal Friends Connection Humane Society heard that Tony and another dog named Clive were being neglected in a backyard and went to the home. The dogs’ owner was in hospital and would not be returning. Rescuers were shocked at what they found.

Huddled in the yard, Tony was barely recognizable as a dog because he was hidden under a pile of dirty fur. Clive was equally dirty but smooth coated. Both were scared. But rescuers were able to take the dogs back to their rescue and begin the healing process.

Staff was worried how Tony would react to the extensive grooming he would require but they needn’t have worried. Tony wagged his tail through the entire process. “He was such a good boy,” Animal Friends Connection Humane Society wrote in a press release. “He knew he was being helped, and he was dying for connection.”

Victoria, who was one of Tony’s rescuers, undertook the grooming. She had braved the feces-filled home to rescue Tony and now she would free him from his matted fur. “Victoria has taught herself to groom most of our incoming dogs even this horrifically matted boy,” Animal Friends Connection Humane Society wrote on Facebook. “We are thankful for her.”

Once Tony was freed of 7 pounds of fur he felt instantly relieved. He was ready to move on to the next stage of his rescue…to another rescue. Tony went to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue along with Clive and the two dogs found forever families!

“Tony came to Muttville after such amazing neglect and turned into a Prince,” Muttville wrote on their Facebook page. “He is living the good life now, thanks to Muttville adopter Toni and her family! He goes to the beach, to the movies, enjoys his teenage sibs, it’s all good! New name – Riley.”
