Stray Dog Porch Hopping For Weeks In Freezing Temperatures Gives Rescuers ‘Trouble’
A tiny dog wandering the snowy, cold streets of St. Louis for weeks is now in safe hands after rescuers were alerted to her plight.
“It was just 7° [-13 °C] this morning when a call came in that this little dog has been porch-hopping for a few weeks,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared.
Donna Lochmann, Chief Life Saving Officer, drove out to the area to find the little dog, later named “Joanie January.” But she quickly realized Joanie was not interested in being rescued. Stray Rescue explained, “She gave us some trouble! Not captured on camera was about two hours of almost getting her, but she would do ANYTHING not to get caught. Here is when we finally got her!”
You can watch Joanie finally getting caught in the video below. If you have trouble viewing the YouTube video, please continue scrolling down to view it in a different format.
As Donna approaches Joanie she asks, “Are you going to be one of the mean ones?”
At first, it seemed Joanie might put up a big fight, but when Donna offered her a can of sausages, Joanie calmed down long enough for Donna to slip a leash over her. Noticing Joanie was trembling with fear, Donna gently placed her coat over Joanie to lift her safely.
Within a few hours of her rescue, Joanie will have been groomed. “We are shaving off all of that cold, wet, dirty matting now, so stay tuned for after photos,” Stray Rescue wrote. They also thanked the caller for reaching out to them and “looking out” for Joanie.
One supporter, after watching the video. commented, “People who will literally take the coats off their backs for a stray animal… heroes, angels.. cannot be thanked enough for the work they do!”
