Several Dog Food Brands Recalled Over Salmonella Dangers

Salmonella is showing up in a number of dog food products, prompting the Food and Drug Administration to issue recalls and safety warnings regarding foods from four different companies.

The companies include: Raws For Paws Dog Food, Red Barn Pet Products, Smokehouse Pet Products and Arrow Reliance (which produces products for Darwin’s Natural Pet Products and ZooLogics Pet Food).

The FDA began issuing warnings since the beginning of February, 2018. Salmonella contamination poses a threat to the dogs that eat this food, and to their humans who handle the food.

Salmonella contamination symptoms include feeling lethargic, fever, body aches, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and diarrhea.

Darwin’s Natural Pet Products (Arrow Reliance)

Darwin’s Natural Pet Products is recalling select lots of its Darwin’s ZooLogics dog food, which includes ZooLogics Chicken and Vegetable Meals for Dogs (Lot #41567) manufactured on 11/2/17 and ZooLogics Duck and Vegetable Meals for Dogs manufactured on 11/16/17 (Lot #41957) for possible Salmonella contamination.

The FDA has investigated six complaints of illness and death in animals that have eaten the recalled products manufactured by Arrow Reliance and Darwin’s Natural Pet Products between October 17, 2016 and February 10, 2018. In each instance, the company recalled these products after being alerted to positive findings of Salmonella and/or Listeria monocytogenes in samples of their raw pet food products, the FDA said.
