Tiny Dog Stays with Missing 3-Year-Old in Cornfield Overnight Until Help Arrives

What would have been a terrifying night for a 3-year-old, wasn’t so scary because she had her faithful dog with her.

Three-year-old Remy disappeared near her home in Qulin, Missouri on Thursday and police officers and volunteers combed the cornfields for nearly 12 hours until they finally found her Friday morning, with her Yorkshire terrier, Fat Heath, by her side.

Timber Merritt, Remy’s mom, knew she needed help finding her little girl. “I looked for her by myself thinking maybe she was just in the woods or somewhere where I just couldn’t see her,” Merritt told KFVS-TV. “And I was calling for her and calling for her, and when she wasn’t calling back I realized, ‘I don’t think I’m going to find her on my own.'”

The groups who searched in the cornfields said that the corn felt like “razor blades cutting you” and it was difficult to orient yourself when people yelled out.

It was Merrit’s brother, Quinlin, who ended up finding Remy. He found her and Fat Heath about a half a mile away from the house and she was asleep.

“She was definitely exhausted, hot, really sweaty and it took a while to drink anything,” said Remy. Remy suffered from mosquito bites but otherwise is back to normal.

The toddler told her mom she wasn’t scared because her dog was with her.

“She said she wasn’t scared because Fat Heath was there, Merritt told KFVS-TV. “If he wasn’t I think she would’ve been terrified.”

Her faithful dog made sure the scary night wasn’t worse.
