‘A-hole’ Dog Finds a Family After Texas Shelter’s Hilarious Social Media Post

Sometimes the blunt approach is the best approach. That’s what the Humane Society of Wichita County figured when they came out and declared one of the dogs at their shelter was simply an “a-hole.”

“This is Eddie, Eddie is an a–hole,” the Humane Society of Wichita County said on Facebook about the 1-year-old dachshund mix, alongside a poop emoji. “Eddie hates other dogs, he’s 17 pounds and could take on a Rottweiler and win.”

The Texas shelter added that Eddie has more of a Bronx vibe.

“If Eddie had an accent, he would sound like he’s from the Bronx, wearing a wife beater t-shirt and a tattoo that says MOM on his arm. If you got into a bar fight, Eddie would back you up and take on all 5 guys, put his cigarette out on their forehead and not spilling [sic] a drop of his beer while doing it.”

They added, “So, if you think you are man enough to adopt him, please be our guest. We want Eddie out of here because he scares our big dogs.”

The shelter’s first Facebook post back in October about Eddie had a very different tone. “This Dachshund mix is Eddie! He’s around a year old, a little nervous to be in the shelter, but he is very sweet once he makes friends with you! He’s very mild mannered and we can’t wait to get him into a good home.”

But shelter staff rightly guessed they need to be more blunt about Eddie’s traits and their marketing technique paid off because just 8 hours after describing Eddie as an “a*-hole” he was adopted!

Linda Brooks, and her daughter, Taryn, drove 140 miles to pick up their new “baby.”

“Very happy to say, our ‘a–hole’ dog has found his forever home! As long as they keep his cigarettes and beer well stocked and keep him away from bulldogs eyeing him up across the courtyard (although I’m pretty sure he could easily whoop ’em), he’s going to be just fine!” Eddie’s new family said.

The Brooks have also set up a Facebook fan page for Eddie entitled “Ahole Eddie” where they are now posting updates on Eddie’s antics. “We just live in Eddie’s world,” Brooks told FOX 4.

Dog lovers are not only happy that Eddie has found a home, they also appreciate the Humane Society of Wichita County’s approach.

“I appreciate that y’all are not afraid to be honest about a dog’s temperament. So many shelters out there are blatantly lying to get dogs out the door and it’s harming people and animals. Or they try to use cutesy language and long paragraphs to hide the reality. Thank you for being an honest shelter,” wrote one viewer.

Another person responded jokingly, “I agree! It was so kind of them to let people know Eddie smokes cigarettes because not everyone wants that in their home.”

Whether shelters are fully disclosing a dog’s temperament or simply being overwhelmed is up to debate, but in Eddie’s case the tongue-and-cheek post was not only funny, it was effective.
