Basset Hound is Definitely Not ‘A Morning Person’
Maclin is not a “morning” person. Or a person at all, for that matter. The Basset Hound refuses to get out of bed, despite the playful and numerous attempts to wake him up by his dad, Ben Nispel, and his doggie sibling, Marley. Ben pets Maclin’s ears and jowls and holds his paw but the dog just yawns and stays under the covers.
“He has a rare and incurable condition called Basset Hound,” Ben jokingly explains. “The side effects can typically be mitigated by food though.”
Ben later shared a sequel video entitled “He’s not an evening person either.”
In it, Maclin is “still snoozin'” Ben says to Marley, “Marley tell him we have to go outside before bed.” Marley is such a good girl trying to get Maclin up. How does Maclin respond? Yawn. But when he hears dad offer a “treat,” well that’s a different matter.
Viewers loved watching Maclin lazing around.
One viewer commented, “Oh my gosh…when he finally arose and looked at the stairs…he’s not a ‘stairs person’ either…lol! Adorable, that’s just who he is, let him live (ahem) sleep his best dog life.”
“I’ve never seen a dog walk up stairs one leg at a time like that lmao laziest dog ever! But adorable,” said another person.
Other viewers noted Maclin’s response to treats. One person figured the dog was saying, “‘I’ll go outside when I’m damn ready to go outside. Oh, you said treats? Yeah, I’m in.'”
Some people commented that Maclin is their “spirit animal.” One viewer noted, “I’m not an early bird OR a night owl myself… I’m more of an afternoon pidgeon.”
But in case viewers think Maclin is never alert and just lies down all day, Ben shared a photo showing that the Basset Hound can actually be awake and paying attention.
