Blind Dog Returned To Shelter Twice Overjoyed When She Reunites With Foster Dad Forever

Lara, a sweet blind Pit Bull, was returned to the shelter twice through no fault of her own. When Brian learned what had happened to her, he decided he would adopt her. Having fostered Lara before, he knew he couldn’t let her face rejection again. So he went to the shelter to meet her, though he wasn’t sure if she would remember him. He reached out his hand to the crate she was in to see how she would react.

He needn’t have worried. The moment Lara recognized him, she leaped to her feet and began wagging her tail. And when she was let out of her crate, she jumped happily into his arms. At that moment, Brian knew he was making the right choice.

Lara had originally been found as a stray. Shortly after, her eyes needed to be removed due to a severe infection. She went into foster care care with Brian before being put up for adoption. In the months that followed, several adoptions failed and the constantly changing environments was hard on her. When she smelled Brian again, it must have been like she knew she was coming home!

Since she’s returned home with Brian she’s been glued to his side. Taking care of a blind dog means Brian has had to make a few adjustments to his behavior. Brian stays alert when they’re outside because he knows she relies on him to be her eyes. He’s also come up with special signals to help her navigate and get around. But Lara makes it a joy because she is highly communicative and always a very happy dog.

Brian says caring for her has actually been much easier than he expected. He says, “Whatever that disability may be, their instinct is to live their lives as a normal animal would.” He adds, “She’s made a home in my heart.”
