Chained Dog Finds Love With New Family Thanks To Rescue’s ‘Matchmaker’

Life is a struggle in the townships of Cape Town, South Africa, but Sidewalk Specials does what it can to help pets stay healthy and happy with their families.

When Laila’s owner reached out to Rachael, the founder of Sidewalk Specials, he was looking for help. Laila wasn’t getting along with his other dogs, and he had her chained up outside without food or water. Despite the neglect, the man wanted her to have a better life and did the right thing by contacting the rescue.

When Rachael first approached Laila, the dog growled and seemed unhappy, but she immediately calmed down when they gave her food and moved her into the shade.

As soon as they had Laila, Rachael knew just the person who could take care of her—Mary. When Mary met Laila, she instantly loved her. Mary’s confidence that they would become family seemed to rub off on Laila.

Rachael introduced Laila to the rest of Mary’s family and knew that both they and Mary had plenty of love to give. But as Rachael drove away, she couldn’t help but wonder if she had made the right decision. When she returned two weeks later to check on Laila, it was clear her matchmaking had worked. Laila was happy, following her new mom everywhere, and Mary was delighted to have her.

Sidewalk Specials regularly helps the townships through wonderful initiatives, such as spaying and neutering pets, providing food, medical care, and more. To support their efforts visit: sidewalkspecials.org
