Colorado Football Player Finds Abandoned Dog and Kitten When He Goes for a Hike

Jaylen Ellis thought he would go for a hike in the Colorado mountains but when he pulled into the parking lot his plans immediately changed when he spotted a “random dog” running around. Two seconds later, a little kitten walked out of nowhere. When Jaylen looked around there wasn’t another person or car in sight. The little dog was matted and dirty and he figured the kitten was only around 2 weeks old.

The Colorado football player didn’t know what to do, he was in a bit of shock. But knew he couldn’t leave the two animals by themselves and so he brought them home and cleaned them up while he waited for the animal shelter to open up.

At the shelter, the dog was microchipped but her family didn’t respond to the shelter’s call. The kitten got into a foster home right away. But when Jaylen heard that the dog was without a home he knew he was going to step up again and go “get his girl.”

He named the small dog Angel. After she decompressed for a week, her character soon came out and it is the sweetest. Jayden says it’s actually been easy for the most part balancing his student and athlete life with his “dog dad” life.

He says of taking Angel home, “I’m not trying to be a stepfather, I’m a father who stepped up.”
