Dog Runs Away from Home and Hops On Train For Solo Adventure
A dog went on a solo ride in search of his owner when he escaped his home and jumped on a commuter train all without his family even knowing.
Dorte Petersen thought Marley the dog was at home with her in Scarborough, Ontario until she got a call from someone on the GO Train heading towards Toronto letting her know the mischievous dog had hitched a ride.
Marley, also known as Marbles, somehow got out of the house even though their gate was shut and found his way down the elevator at the train station and hopped on board. Petersen got a call 10 minutes after last seeing him that he was on his way to Union Station.
Dorte’s daughter Kia Andersen said in a Facebook, “After only being gone from the house for 10 mins (he escaped after a long walk), he walked by himself to the Rouge Hill GO station and decided to hop on…”
The family got a call from the train conductor telling them, “the good news is we have your dog, but the bad news is he is headed to Union Station with us.”
Petersen thinks that the six-year-old Border Collie Shepherd mix got outside and went looking for her and that brought him to the GO Train station. They often pass through the station on their walks.
“He has rode the elevator for the GO Train all summer with me. I had been in a wheelchair so we were using it to access the path on the other side so he was very familiar with that elevator,” Petersen explained to CTV News.
Petersen said she was mortified her dog had gotten out, but the train conductor and other passengers took good care of Marley and he was reunited with her shortly after his solo adventure.
Marley’s “cute face made him tons of friends on the train” and he quickly became a viral sensation. Andersen says that the family is extremely thankful that the GO train staff “went above and beyond to make sure Marbles was happy and got back to us safe and sound”
