Dog Rescued from Hot Truck After Owners Left Him There to Go to Beach
Police in Florida say they had to come to the rescue of a dog left inside a U-Haul truck heated by the sun while his owners went to the the beach.
New Smyrna Beach Police Department shared video of the dog they found locked in the truck on June 2nd at New Smyrna Beach. The dog had been left inside the vehicle for roughly an hour, according to a report received by the police department.
The officers’ body camera footage shows the dog panting heavily and trying to escape the truck through a narrowly cracked open window.
“This dog is so thirsty,” one of the officers can be heard saying in the video as the other officer pours water from a bottle through the window so the dog could drink.
“This dog was left locked inside a U-Haul truck yesterday while the owners went to the beach. The windows were cracked only slightly, and no water was left inside for the dog,” the police department shared on Facebook.
They added that the “temperature outside at the time was 86 degrees with no cloud cover, meaning the temperature inside the vehicle was likely 100 degrees or more.”
Officers pulled the dog from the truck and transported him to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society and charging affidavits were sent to the State Attorney’s Office for the owners of the dog.
“Never leave an animal or a child alone inside a vehicle, even for a short period. It could be deadly,” the police wrote on Facebook. “Thank you to the vigilant person who noticed the dog in the car and reported it so we could help.”
