Dog Stranded on Frozen Lake For Hours Rescued with Drone’s Help
A dog stuck on a frozen lake in New Jersey on Christmas Eve was safely brought home thanks to the efforts of a neighbor, his drone, and some dedicated police officers. Brooklyn, a 2-year-old sheepadoodle, had run away from her dog sitter onto the frozen Lake Parsippany while her family was away for the holidays.
Police initially tried to coax Brooklyn off the ice, but she refused to budge. Kishan Patel, a nearby resident with a dog of his own, thought his drone might help. Attaching a piece of chicken to the drone, he attempted to lure Brooklyn back to shore. The plan almost worked—Brooklyn ran toward the shore but got spooked by the people waiting there and dashed back onto the ice.
Patel noted that the police officers stayed at the scene throughout the night. Around 11:30 p.m., they decided to change tactics, testing the ice to see if it was thick enough to support someone. Using the drone to locate Brooklyn, one officer bravely ventured onto the ice to scare her back toward the shore. This time, Brooklyn ran off the ice and onto a nearby porch, where officers were finally able to catch her.
Brooklyn is now safe and sound back at home!
