Dog Wants to Visit Pub and Hilariously Refuses to Walk Past It

Has this dog visited this pub before because it sure looks like it! Grenson the Airedale terrier was on an evening walk with his mom Kate Torney in Exeter, England when they happened to walk by the sports pub, the Stand Off. And that’s what happened next – a stand-off between mom and dog. Grenson decided he wanted to pop into the pub to enjoy a pint and plonked himself down in front of the open doors.

Video shows Torney trying to convince the “wilful” Airedale to budge as onlookers in the pub laugh good heartedly. The men inside joked that Grenson should be on the sports bar’s marketing team. Another man said Torney should bring him in for a pint. Many viewers joked that Grenson had “exposed her other half’s real destination” on walks. This rings true to us because why else would Grenson put up such a protest?

One viewer commented, “She now knows why her boyfriend loves to take long walks with her dog. It’s his favorite chore and he tackles the job with a smile not even a whimper.”

Another viewer said the video should be captioned, “Mom ‘Discovered’ Where Doggo Hangs Out When He’s With Dad.”

One person thought the pub patrons were very polite about the whole thing. “Hats off to the ‘Gentlemen’ in that pub – they could have made that lady feel uncomfortable/embarrassed, but they just had a good laugh with her in a respectful manner,” the viewer wrote. “The dog is adorable!”

Other viewers have had Airedales of their own and said they recognize Grenson’s behavior.

“Airedales are wonderful. Full of character but often rather obstinate. Our Airedale, Pete, especially in later years would suddenly sit down on a walk and refuse to go any further,” one Airedale guardian shared. “No amount of coaxing him would get him to go on. But, turn for home and he was back on his feet in a jiffy. We are our 9th dog now and we loved them all but Pete was something rather special. To think, back 80 odd years ago they were actually trained to be police dogs! Great video, thank you.”

And finally, one person shared that their dog shares a love of the pub just like Grenson but for a valid reason. “I loved this just as it is…but also because our 18-month-old French Bulldog does this very thing with our local too,” commented the person on YouTube. “He literally runs to the pub from half way along our walk. He won’t let us pass the door. In our case, it’s because I worked there when we first got him, it was the first place I took him out with our home. Was great for socialising him, but unfortunately, my manager absolutely loves all animals and would let him behind the bar and gave him treats. Which was lovely at the time, but not so much now that there’s new management and I don’t work there anymore either. Poor wee Rocco doesn’t understand he’s not allowed behind the bar anymore and we get the same scene as with this big boy in the video! As a result we now try to walk other ways, especially if time is short!”
