Dog Found Wrapped in Garbage Bag Starts a Wonderful New Life
A dog found wrapped in a trash bag and abandoned in Des Moines, Iowa, last month now has a loving new home.
In December, Wally was spotted by a Lyft driver who immediately contacted Des Moines Police. Officers rushed the emaciated dog to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL), where he received critical care.
ARL shared on Facebook: “When Wally arrived at our ARL Animal Services location, he weighed just 23 pounds and was extremely weak. He needed IV fluids, a special feeding program, and close monitoring by our veterinarians, but as the weeks went by he slowly gained weight and began to recover.”
“Once Wally was healthy enough to continue healing in a home environment, he had a family ready to care for him! A couple named Dave and Karen had been so moved by his story, they became an ARL foster home to help pets in need any way they could,” ARL continued.
It didn’t take long for Dave and Karen to fall in love with Wally. “Once Wally was in their home as a foster, they realized they couldn’t part with him. They officially adopted him last week.”
The rescue organization said, “Wally is now healthy and living his best life.” Wally has a canine sibling, lots of friends and, most importantly, he’s a cherished member of the family. ARC wrote, “His family adores him and he is enjoying his dog friends, as well as lots of soft places to nap.”
Investigation into who dumped Wally is ongoing, with ARC sharing that despite a flood of tips, no suspects have been positively identified at this time.
