Emotional Moment Man Reunites With His Dog Missing 5 Days in LA Wildfires

A man’s heartwarming reaction after being reunited with his dog, who went missing during the Palisades wildfires, is offering people a moment of respite from the devastation sweeping through Los Angeles. Casey Colvin considers his two rescue dogs Tika Tika Tika and Oreo his children.

On Tuesday, when fires tore through his neighborhood, Colvin was in the city. He raced back and even tried to reach his house by bicycle, but he couldn’t get past the barricade. It was at that point he encountered NBC correspondent Liz Kreutz. In tears, he told her, “I hope to God my dogs are okay. They are my family. I rescued them off the street. They deserve better than this.”

Kreutz helped him alert firefighters, and Cal Fire Battalion Chief Brent Pascua went to Colvin’s house to look for the dogs. When Pascua knocked down the door, the two dogs ran out. He managed to grab Tika Tika Tika, but Oreo ran away.

In the days that followed, neighbors spotted Oreo several times among the rubble of destroyed homes.

Colvin received photos and, five days later, got a call that Oreo had been spotted at a neighboring home. Kreutz was with him when Oreo recognized Colvin, ran down a driveway, slipped under a fence, and leapt into his arms.

NBC shared the emotional video. “I’m never going to let him go,” Colvin said through sobs as he hugged Oreo.

Later, Colvin met Pascua to thank him personally for saving his dogs. In interviews since, Colvin has expressed immense gratitude for having his family alive.
