English Labrador Hilariously Negotiates with His Mom Before Getting Out of Car

Toro drives a hard bargain.

Labrador Retrievers tend to fall into two distinct camps when it comes to motivation. Some Labs are driven by play and will do anything to keep a game of fetch going—potentially forever. Then, there are the Labs who are motivated by, you guessed it, food. So, which camp does Toro, the English Lab, belong to?

Toro’s mom recently shared an adorable video where he refuses to get out of the car—until he hears the right motivating word. Cookie? Green bean? Nope.

It turns out he’s motivated by bread and bread has been a motivator more than once. But not always. His mom filmed another “negotiation” or what she calls “another day, another drama.” Again, mom tells Toro “We have to go inside.” But this time she increases the stakes. She says, “I have something special and it’s not bread. It’s salmon. Do you want a piece of salmon?”

It turns out she has diversified the portfolio of items that Toro will respond to. As she says to Toro as he leaps out of the car, “You’re more than carbs.” At this rate we are beginning to suspect that Toro has a very wide vocabulary of food words.

But could there be a possible reason for this habit? Grandma do you have anything you would like to say?

Gaunt? Toro? Are we looking at the same dog? We suspect Grandma saying the poor puppy is hungry and that “We’ve been a little more generous with him, no green beans” might have something to do with his increased food vocabulary.

But just in case you think Toro is a car couch potato and not into the other kind of Labrador activities out there, here is the cutie enjoying one of his favorite activities. And yes, fetch is involved.
