Five Abandoned Great Pyrenees Show Up in Family’s Backyard Looking for Help After Wandering For Weeks

A family is sheltering five Great Pyrenees after the dogs showed up in their backyard. Rebecka Walters shared a TikTok video of a family of the large beige dogs on her property in Upper Lake, California. There were three puppies and one adult female and one adult male.

“These babies showed up at our property today,” she wrote in the video. She asked around and learned that the dogs had been “roaming the streets for weeks and their owner abandoned them.”

All the dogs were incredibly sweet and wanted attention a pets. A couple of the dogs had ear infections and all of them had fleas. After cleaning them up and feeding them, Rebecka and her family let the dogs settle in for the night in their barn. “They were so exhausted from traveling for days,” she wrote. All the dogs were desperate to be petted and get human attention.

The following day, the family got the dogs dewormed, vaccinated and gave them flea and tick medications along with “some much needed love.”

She said their next goal is to get them all spayed and neutered so they can get adopted out. “They deserve to live long happy lives,” wrote Walters, who is hoping to find them all forever home. Fortunately, she added that they know a lot of great homes close by that have reached out to them to adopt them. In fact, she confirmed one of the pups has found a home.

Many viewers want the dogs to stay together as a family, but Rebecka provided an explanation as to why that is not feasible in a follow up video. She said, “No matter if they stay together or are separated our top priority is that they live happy and healthy lives.”

However, she noted, the dogs are demonstrating “strong pack behaviors” such as aggression and the female (who is “alpha”) doesn’t always allow the male and puppies to eat. There are some behavioral issues among the adult dogs that indicate that separating them may be what’s best for them and Rebecka believes that the dogs will still be completely happy if they don’t stay together.

After learning these details viewers understand that it is in the best interest for the dogs’ health and happiness for the dogs to be separated.

Rebecka also explained that the family is still learning things about the dogs’ owners and their operation, and mentioned there may be multiple generations of breeding that has been going on for a while. But she reassured people that the “number one goal is to make sure the dogs don’t go back there and that this breeding stops.” They are currently working on getting the dogs healthy and “officially surrendered.”

A week on and all the dogs are doing much better. Rebecka posted an update saying all the puppies are doing well and making new friends, especially with her daughters who are busy training the puppies and “working overtime making sure they feel loved.”

The dogs all now have names. The puppies are Missy, Bailey and Hoppers. Mom is Honey and the adult male (who is likely not the dad) is Skittles. With all the love and support these dogs are getting now, we’re confident they will all have a brighter future ahead of them.
