Good Samaritan Saves German Shepherd Running On Freeway

A Good Samaritan came to the rescue of a German Shepherd who got loose and was running on a freeway in Michigan. Debbie Allen was driving along westbound 1-94 when she spotted the dog. “I saw a dog in the middle of the road and it was obviously limping so I knew it had been hit,” she told WXYZ.

She immediately pulled over and looped around to try and reach the dog who initially ran up an embankment only to run back down onto the highway.

Allen then tried to stop traffic to keep the dog safe and with the help of another driver secured the dog on against a center divider. She sat with the dog holding on to him to keep him from running away until Michigan Humane Society arrived.

“I sat with the dog and told him he was safe and I had him look at me because he was looking for an escape route and I said no, no, look at me you’re safe,” she said.

Allen noted the dog was well-fed, well-groomed and well-mannered. She asked Michigan Humane to let her know where the dog was going so she could follow up with them. Although the dog was not microchipped, they are hopeful he will be reunited with his family.

After being commended by the news station for her actions Debbie simply said, “I am not a hero just a human being.”

WXYZ shared a video of Allen comforting the dog on YouTube here.
