Havanese Surprises Rescuers with Hidden Puppy Delivery

A few days ago, National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR) introduced their supporters to Sabrina, an adorable Havanese with a winning smile. The rescue organization, dedicated to saving dogs from puppy mills, announced that Sabrina was available for adoption. However, those plans are temporarily on hold after a surprising discovery in her kennel—a newborn puppy!

NMDR first introduced Sabrina with a cute Facebook video, where she greeted visitors with a charming smile. “Meet Sabrina, our cheerful Havanese who just can’t help but flash a big ol’ grin every time someone visits her kennel,” they wrote. Sabrina’s infectious smile and wagging tail captured everyone’s hearts.

They added, “Her infectious smile is guaranteed to light up a million hearts. Whether she’s greeting volunteers or potential adopters, Sabrina’s joyous spirit is truly captivating.”

Sabrina would give staff the unexpected surprise just a few days later when they discovered her nursing a puppy when they stopped by for a morning visit!

NMDR wrote, “Check out the unexpected joy that greeted our staff yesterday morning: Sabrina, our always-smiling Havanese, had a little secret—a newborn puppy named Salem! It turns out her radiant grins were heralding her new motherhood.”

Theresa Strader, founder and Executive Director of NMDR, explained in another video that although Sabrina appeared slightly chubby when she first arrived at their rescue, she hadn’t shown any signs of pregnancy, such as lactating. Dogs from puppy mills often appear overweight due to a lack of exercise.

Now, both Sabrina and her puppy, Salem, are “cozily settled in a quiet foster home, ensuring Sabrina can provide Salem with all the care needed in a peaceful setting.” It is a blessing that Sabrina was rescued before giving birth, allowing her and her pup to receive proper care.

NMDR said, “This will be Sabrina’s last litter, and we couldn’t be happier that her days of motherhood will end surrounded by love and care. Sabrina will be ready for adoption in 8 weeks, once Salem is weaned.”

Potential adopters can apply now if they are interested in adopting Sabrina or Salem.
