This Cute Husky Malamute Thinks She is a Cat

Meet Tally, the very cat-like dog. Tally was raised by cats and her humans say that she behaves a lot like you’d expect a cat to, except that she’s a Husky/Malamute mix.

“She actually looks and behaves more like a Malamute (who are also a bit cat-like), but most people don’t know what they are so I go with ‘husky’,” said her human.

There aren’t any photos of Tally with cats because her family adopted her when she was two years old but her family was told Tally’s previous family had cats.

“She was raised with cats by her previous owners, and they only gave me puppy pictures without the cats,” said her family. “I can’t prove she was raised with them or that she truly thinks she’s a cat,” said her family but they shared these funny and sweet photos of Tally’s cat-like behavior as evidence.

She likes to sit like a cat. Here’s a “better view of her cat-pose.”

She likes climbing into cardboard boxes. How very feline of her.

“She ended up staying in there for awhile until we went to do something else, at which point she promptly followed to stay in on the action.”

Tally often ignores other dogs but still gets out a lot. Her family wrote, “I taught her to bikejor with me. She likes to pull me on my bike. A lot. She also likes to ignore other dogs. She hasn’t seen a cat since we adopted her. I think she misses her kind.”

Tally has a silent stare, much like a cat. “Forgot to mention that she’s almost completely mute. She likes to lie there, observing people and silently judging them all day.”

She likes to lie places where you have to step over her (or you might trip!). We’ve heard of cats that do that. “She’s not allowed to go upstairs, but she’ll try to sneak up one stair at a time. You can usually tell how badly she wants you to come downstairs by how far she’s gone up the stairs. This is about 3/10 urgency.”

She has her own sofa perch. “This is her sofa. She claimed it by shedding on it and by sneakily sleeping on it every night (she wasn’t allowed to) until we let her have it.”

“We adopted her at 2 years old, so these [puppy pictures] were all taken by her previous owners (the cat owners).”

Tally’s nickname “Tao Tao” means ‘mischievous’ in Chinese. “A day is not complete without getting into trouble at least once.”

She’s not a fan of belly rubs. “Cat fact of the day: You might think that she’d like you to pet her belly. You would be wrong. She’ll stare at you and sigh a lot until you stop.”

She likes sunbathing like a cat.

“Lazy but flexible, so she’ll twist her head round to check what’s going on.”

She may have cat-like behaviors, but she also likes doing dog activities too, like playing in the snow.

“She’s mildly good at balancing things on her head” which really is not a cat or dog behavior.

She likes to sleep everywhere.

She also loves her stuffies. “After we got her spayed, she’d be moody and snuggled with a bunch of stuffed toys for a week.”

She’s perfected the art of begging for food. “If you’re eating, she’ll rest her head on your lap until you give her food.”

“Despite how sweet she may look, she will eat your food and drink your milk as you watch.”

And she’ll patiently wait for a treat!
