Lost Dog Hugs Rescuers After Being Saved From Two Days In Freezing Cold

For two days, a stray dog had been seen running in a local park in Wichita, enduring subfreezing temperatures. Despite attempting to catch him, no one could get close to him. With the temperatures dipping below 30 degrees Farenheit (-1 C), a concerned Good Samaritan contacted Wichita Animal Action League (WAAL).

On the first day, WAAL’s rescue team was unable to approach the dog, so they left a doghouse filled with straw overnight to provide some warmth. The following day, they returned with a live trap baited with tuna. The food piqued the dog’s interest, but he remained wary, keeping a close eye on the rescuers.

At one point, he bumped his head on the trap and retreated, prompting the team to continue tracking him. As the snow intensified and the temperatures dropped further, the dog grew tired and eventually curled up on a blanket left out for him. Recognizing their opportunity, the rescuers decided it was time to gain his trust.

You can watch the rescue of Clydis in the video below:

Finally, Clydis took the bait and allowed a WAAL volunteer to grab his chain collar. Although he resisted, squirming and nipping at her, she held on tightly and refused to let go until she finally managed to secure a rope around his neck.

Once inside the car, Clydis quickly calmed down. He rested his head on one of his rescuer’s chest, giving her a hug in gratitude. He then turned to kiss the woman who had caught him. WAAL was equally relieved to have rescued Clydis, as he likely wouldn’t have survived another freezing night.

A microchip revealed that Clydis was lost, and his family was overjoyed to be reunited with him. The grateful family had been moving out of an apartment to a new house when Clydis escaped. Clydis wagged his tail excitedly, clearly relieved to be back home, safe, and out of the cold.
