Mama Dog Finally Lets Rescuer Near Her After Giving Birth in Filthy Basement
A dog abandoned the streets of Greece got pregnant and would run away any time rescuers approached her. It wasn’t until she gave birth in a dark and dirty basement covered in cobwebs that she let Ermioni from DAR Rescue get close.
Ermioni braved all the spiders and found the dog curled up with her puppies on the concrete floor. Thankfully, the mama dog was receptive to her help.
Ermioni could pick the mama dog up safely along with her puppies and bring them all to the vet.
“We didn’t manage to find out who abandoned her as she has no microchip,” says Ermioni. “Also we know nothing about her past. We know that she lived on the streets for more than 3 months and she was always scared of everyone. She never allowed anyone to approach her. She allowed me because of her babies and now she will have the chance for a better life.”
Ermioni ended up bringing the dog family home to foster herself because she couldn’t find someone else.
And for those wondering she broke her arm falling down stairs, not while rescuing animals. She explained on Facebook, “And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when you’re always late so you’re running down the stairs and you’re not concentrating properly and trying to check your pockets for keys and your phone… And you lose your balance and end up falling down the flight of stairs!”
Fortunately, being on “light duties” for the next few weeks involves looking after these sweet newborn puppies.
And lucky for the puppies, Ermioni was able to convince her husband to bring them home. Ermioni said that she was called about the mama and her puppies, and although her shelter is full, she knew she couldn’t leave them there. “So, with the agreement of my long-suffering husband, I brought them back to my home. While mum is very nervous around people she is getting a little better as she gets used to me but still won’t accept any affection yet. I’ll keep them here until they are fully vaccinated and then we can do proper assessments hopefully for homing.”
