Man Seen in Video Viciously Beating Great Dane, Warrant Issued for His Arrest

Surveillance video showing a man viciously beating his dog in the stairwell of an apartment has lead to a warrant to be issued for the man’s arrest after he was sentenced to jail but did not appear in court.

The Justice of the Peace in the case sentenced Deep Bista to nine months in jail after viewing video of the incident, which occurred in Peterborough, Ontario in Canada.

“It is one of the most cowardly, and disgusting behaviours I have ever seen,” Justice of the Peace Peter J. Hiscox said after viewing the video in Peterborough Provincial Court on Monday, May 14, 2018.

Surveillance video came to the attention of Ontario SPCA when the property manager of the building captured the violent beatings on surveillance cameras in September of last year.

Bista is seen punching, kicking, dragging and choking the Great Dane named DJ on three separate occasions. One time, the dog is so terrified that he urinates.

Warning: the video below is graphic and depicts the beating. Viewer discretion is advised.

The 3-year-old dog was seized by the OSPCA after a veterinarian examined him. The provincial prosecutor revealed in court that the dog remarkably “did not seem to sustain any longterm injuries.”

Provincial prosecutor Andrew Fordham added at Bista’s actions were “appalling sickening, and disturbing.”

Bista, who pleaded guilty to three counts of causing distress to an animal, was not in court for the sentencing. According to to MyKawartha.com, Bista is back in his home country of Nepal, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

A statement from Bista was read in court in which he asked for a second chance and that he had lost his job and had to return to Nepal due to deaths in his family.

In his letter, Bista said that he had DJ since he was three months old and “truly loved him” and that he did not intend to hurt him and regretted causing him pain.

Fordman casted doubt on Bista’s sincerity after pointing out that Bista had earlier claimed he was returning home to Nepal because of a heart condition.

Bista was also given a life-time ban on owning an animal.
