Man Spots Stray Dog In the Desert and Drops Everything To Rescue Her
Zach was traveling near the Grand Canyon when he saw a stray dog at a gas station. When he saw the dog trotting off with a Starbucks bag he asked about her and was told she had been out in the desert for months.
Zach knew he couldn’t leave the dog behind and decided to camp out to rescue her. A local rescue donated a trap and treats to help him catch the dog, but she was too smart. The dog, who he named Haseya, was so clever she could pull the treats out from under the cage without triggering it. But Zach refused to give up.
Finally, on Day Four, Haseya decided she had enough of life in the wild and went into the cage. Zach says he thinks she made a choice to trust him.
Zach drove them home, got Haskeya vet checked and slowly introduced her to his other pets. He was pleasantly surprised by how well she got along with his cats. Then she was introduced to Marble the dog and they ended up play bowing for 8 hours straight!
Months after rescuing Haseya, Zack shared on social media how much Haseya has taught him.
He wrote, “Haseya has truly taught me that adversity is not only necessary to build character… but to truly appreciate the good in this world. To be GENUINELY happy, you have to experience its counterpart.”
He continued, “She lived with her tail between her legs when I found her. Now every time I see her she is literally smiling and playing. She is happier than the average dog or person because she knows the alternative. That has been such a good lesson to learn as I’ve watched her grow.”
Haseya and Marby are now living a happy life with Zach’s ex-partner and he regularly visits them. Originally, he took Haseya but quickly learned it wasn’t what was best for her or for Marble.
“I travel for work which is why I got the cats and my ex got Marby [Marble] when we split up,” Zach explained on Instagram. “She bought a doggy day care business last month so she moved across the state. Haseya and Marby both did not do very well this past week without each other. Anxious. Staring out windows. Just not happy.”
“So my ex swooped in like a superhero and offered to adopt Haseya so her and Marby can live out their days together with unlimited north woods trails, a fenced yard, and unlimited new friends at the kennel which is on the same property as the house.”
It has been the right choice. From the moment Haseya reunited with Marble she could not stop smiling and in the nearly two years since Haseya was rescued the two share “an inseparable friendship.”
@jackiwiz It’s been 2 years since Miss Maverick aka Marble found her ride or die co-pilot in Haseya surviving in the desert❤️
Haskeya has come such a long way since she was first rescued and has the best family now thanks to Zach noticing her at that gas station and deciding to care all those years ago. Zach said that Haseya is such a happy dog and an “absolute miracle.”
