Off Duty Cop Comes To Rescue Of Dog Crying In Pain From Gun Shot

A dog cruelly shot and left to die on a street in Tampa, Florida, is alive today thanks to a police officer who came to her rescue.

Master Corporal Helmer was just coming off duty at Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and on his way home when he heard a dog crying out in pain on the street. He immediately sprang to her aid.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office shared what happened on their Facebook page:

“Master Corporal Helmer was just coming off duty when he came across this dog whimpering and shot in the leg. He immediately got the pup to a shelter and affectionately named her “Cupcake” because she’s so sweet and cuddly, even while suffering.”

They reached out for support in raising funds for critical care surgery to repair her wounds.

Within 24 hours, they received an unexpected gift to help Cupcake heal. They wrote:

“So much great news to share. Since our post just 24 hours ago about the sweet pup Cupcake that was found shot in the leg, an anonymous donor and vet have stepped up to take care of all of Cupcake’s medial needs.”

But that wasn’t all.

“Even better, #TeamHCSO Deputies Sam and Cindy Rodriguez found a special place in their hearts and their home for Cupcake to live forever! Cupcake will join their happy family that includes 3 other rescue animals.”

Master Corporal Helmer paid Cupcake a visit a day later to see how she was doing and to give her some cuddles.

How wonderful is this news? From bleeding on the street, to a new home and family, Cupcake has a lot to look forward to just one day after she was in such a terrible situation. And all thanks to Corporal Helmer.
