Paralyzed Dog Stands in Sewage Drain Until Rescuers Arrive

A paralyzed dog stuck in a sewage rain had no way out. He was unable to move and when Animal Aid Unlimited arrived to rescue him they found him “forlorn and worried, sitting perfectly still as the cold sewage water rushed past him.”

When they lifted Hopper out of the drain they didn’t know what was wrong with him. They didn’t find any noticeable injury or blood so they rushed him back to their shelter to find out what was wrong with him.

They learned his hind legs were not responding and he couldn’t put weight on them either. Everything pointed to paralysis from a spinal injury.

“Spinal injuries have different rates of recovery depending on the severity, and we were honestly worried by the lack of sensation in his toes,” his rescuers wrote. “But we gave him a chance, and began his bedrest and physical therapy in hopes that the sensation and movement would come back to his legs.”

It took a while and they just weren’t certain he would stand again but Hopper was about to give them a big surprise. Watch Hopper’s rescue in the video:

Amazingly, Hopper can stand and “hop” around. And because of his paresis he will live permanently with Animal Aid!
