Pit Bull About to Be Put Down for Barking At Another Dog Adopted On Her ‘Last Day’
A Pit Bull on death’s door was saved thanks to getting one extra day at a shelter.
When Moose arrived at a Texas shelter she was emaciated and an x-ray revealed she had a bullet lodged in her lung. Moose also had the misfortune to be brought to a high kill shelter. Moose was scheduled to be euthanized but it was postponed for a day because they had an extra kennel open. That extra day saved her life because her photo caught the attention of a woman named Mikki. Mikki immediately applied to adopt Moose and the dog was transported by bus from Texas to Virginia where Mikki picked her up.
Moose was very nervous when she first met Mikki but she quickly picked up that Mikki was her new family. Mikki figures that Moose had an owner before because she knew “drop it” and was potty trained. Moose was so well behaved that Mikki was shocked to learn that Moose was going to be euthanized because of behavioral issues. And when she reviewed her new dog’s file all she could see was that Moose had barked at another dog.
Mikki observed that when Moose meets other dogs she gets so excited she barks out of excitement because she is so eager to be her friend and not out of aggression.
Now a year and a half later, Mikki says Moose is still eager to be everyone’s best friend and she is now training Moose to be her service dog.
Mikki says she is still saddened by the thought that Moose “was going to be euthanized because of a behavioral issue that doesn’t even exist.”
She adds, “It’s just sad because she’s perfect.”
