Police Officer Saves Pit Bull ‘Inches from Drowning’ in Floodwaters

A police officer from the Greenville Police Department in North Carolina is being hailed as a “real life hero” after he rescued a Pit bull “inches from drowning” in the rising floodwaters that hit the city after tropical storm Ophelia arrived on early Saturday morning.

In the video shared by the police department, Officer B. Schultz is by the property’s fence. His knees are covered with water and there is a dog crate submerged underwater.

Officer Schultz reaches down for the dog, unties him from the fence and carries him to safety.

According to the Greenville Police Department Facebook page, the small Pit Bull would have drowned if someone hadn’t noticed the danger the dog was in and called them.

“The dog, a small pit bull, was tied to a fence and was just inches from drowning,” the Greenville Police Department wrote. “Thank you to the Good Samaritan who called this in! Without you, he wouldn’t be alive.”

The police said that the dog is now safe. They wrote, “He is safe from harm now and Animal Protective Services will be conducting a follow up investigation.”

Thank goodness Officer Shultz arrived when he did and was able to safe the poor dog!
