Brave Shar Pei Mix Healing After Attack, Seeks a Loving Home
Stray Rescue of St. Louis never turns away a dog in need. This past week, they received a photo of a Shar Pei mix along with a plea for help. The dog had been attacked by other dogs and was covered in bite wounds. She had lived outside her entire life.
The animal rescue organization immediately said yes and, when she arrived, they couldn’t believe their eyes. “Weighing in at a mere 31 pounds, this little 1-year-old Shar Pei mix certainly stole our hearts instantly.”
They named her Lorena and could tell from her behavior that she was very grateful. ” She’s so thankful to get the medical care she needs, and to not be outside anymore….She’s been licking all of us, and just wants to be touched and held,” the group wrote on Facebook.
After doing an exam, vets determined that Lorena’s bite wounds were surface level, which was in immense relief, although she had many marks all over her body. They added, “On top of all those bites, she has ear infections, entropion (will need surgery to correct), and her gums are very pale.”
She was immediately put on fluids and antibiotics, and her entropion surgery is scheduled to take place in a week once her infection has fully resolved. Next up was a little TLC. Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared a video of Lorena and wrote, “She is soooo stinky and dirty, so we gave her a warm bath.”
Shortly after, Lorena went into a foster home where she is warm and cozy and lapping up all the attention she is getting.
Lorena is healing quickly and doing wonderfully well after just a few days. After her entropion surgery next week, she’ll be ready for a forever home. Here’s what her foster mom has to say:
“She is fabulous with people and other dogs, she is soooo loving and just wants to play. She is a great cuddler, too. So far, she is completely potty trained with no accidents in the house/crate whatsoever. We are working on basic obedience like walking on a leash and crate training with her. Crate training is going very well. “
“She is a happy, excited 1 year old girl – a little jumpy and very fast, so I think a home with kids would be fine once we can manage her jumping. She’s only 31 pounds, so it hasn’t been an issue for us. She would do best in a home with no cats, she wants to chase them which is no fun for kitties. She sleeps very well through the night and loves the comfort of someone to lay on.”
Stray Rescue of St. Louis says that Lorena’s adoption fee is being covered by one of their supporters. If you are interested in supporting Lorena’s medical care or putting in an adoption application, please visit the Stray Rescue of St. Louis website.
