Shar Pei Saved From Kill Shelter Becomes Rescuer’s ‘Heart Dog’

Lee Asher of The Asher House loves all dogs, but there was one breed of dog he always wanted to bring to the animal sanctuary and that was a Shar Pei. Last year, Lee spotted Fonzie, a puppy in a high kill shelter in Los Angeles, California. He immediately wanted to rescue the poor pup, and after learning that Pei People Rescue had saved him, he reached out.

The day Fonzie arrived at The Asher House Lee was so excited he was like a kid on Christmas morning. Now almost a year later, Lee shared a heartwarming update.

Fonzie is staying with Lee forever. Lee admits that Fonzie is his “heart dog” and playfully whispers that he’s in his top three favorite dogs at The Asher House (which has hundreds). He whispers this news because he doesn’t want the other dogs to get jealous.

Lee also shares that he’s learned that Shar Peis are very independent and they usually bond with one person, and they are not extremely social. However, he says the Fonzie has been great and is super cuddly. It’s so sweet to see the two spending quality time together, and Lee even call Fonzie his son.
