Shelter Dog Found Dragging Heavy Chain Always Has His ‘Best Friend’ With Him
A sweet Pit Bull mix found wandering the streets dragging a big chain around his neck has a companion he won’t let go of – his stuffed toy. Niko was picked up by Animal Services in Lockhart, Texas “wearing a black nylon collar…and dragging a length of big chain.” He was in terrible shape, but is doing much better now.
Since arriving at the shelter a few months ago, he’s revealed himself to be extremely gentle, according to Amy Baxter, who posted some adorable pictures and video of Nico on her Facebook page.
She says the 4-year-old dog is, “Good with female dogs, select with some males. He would be a perfect family dog as he loves children. Extremely gentle. He has this toy in his mouth at all times. It’s his best friend.”
“We absolutely love this boy,” she writes.
Niko is heartworm positive, but Amy says they can get him treated for the condition. Others that know her say that she makes sure that Nico and the other animals at the shelter are well looked after. “These dogs get treated better than most people treat their own dogs,” commented Kelly Carroll.
Amy responded, writing, “Kelly Theriot and Kelly Carroll are my two amigas that make this team here at the shelter. The three of us are inseparable And we love these animals like they are our own that’s for sure. Shelter dogs rock!”
