Shelter Dog’s Adorable Jailbreak After Kennel Door Accidentally Opens is Warming Hearts

A homeless dog at Niagara SPCA made the most adorable jailbreak recently after her kennel door popped open because of a mechanical error at the shelter.

The dog named Bugsy was in complete disbelief at the turn of events which security camera footage recorded. Her kennel door was open but she could get out even though no humans were around! It was the perfect time for a “jailbreak” if she knew what one was. But the 6-year-old dog, is in fact, a well-behaved pup.

Niagara SPCA shared the funny security camera clip of Bugsy adorably busting out of her kennel and wrote about the footage:

“We recognize any number of things could have happened, but nothing did. Bugsy was seen on camera and agents immediately secured her,” they wrote. “Of course we have to share it though because every adorable and funny thing an animal does is a possibility for exposure and a chance at finding a home!

“So, let’s all just appreciate this adorable jailbreak. Bugsy in disbelief of her new found freedom and testing the waters,” they continued. “Her trying to get Kane to play with her from inside his kennel, her excitement when she sees agents and her immediate obedience when Officer Bondi tells her to go back to her kennel. Bugsy doesn’t want any trouble with the Kitten Cop.”

The shelter staff added, “This girl is so much fun and soooo good! Someone get in here and jailbreak her forever!”

Bugsy’s “jailbreak” wasn’t so much a jailbreak as going back and forth to her kennel looking for someone to socialize with, which fits the Niagara SPCA’s description of her perfectly. She’s “people and dog friendly, adorably snorty and pure happiness and joy! (No cats for this girl though.)”

Bugsy’s cute escapade quickly racked up 3 million views. Alas, no takers. “You would think 3 million views on a video would get at least one potential adopter over to visit Bugsy,” the shelter staff wrote disappointedly. But Bugsy’s jailbreak video did catch the attention of one party – the Niagara County Sheriff.

Deputy Hall paid Bugsy a visit and “said something about taking her to ‘the Joint’,” Niagara SPCA joked. “We watched as Bugsy was loaded up into the back of the Sheriff’s car.” The true destination? A burger “joint” where she enjoyed a free cheeseburger.

The delicious treat was followed up by a trip to Blackwinds Pet Supply where Bugsy got her pick of a toy!

Bugsy’s day of freedom was captured by “rescue-loving, local photographer, Jessica Popovich” the Niagara SPCA said on their Facebook page.

“We have no doubt Bugsy had the time of her life on Thursday,” the SPCA wrote afterwards. “And she deserves a lifetime of these moments. Deputy Hall wanted to help make that a reality by playing along in this adorably sweet fieldtrip complete with a photo shoot to help promote her adoption.”

They added, “Please share to help get our Bug-a-boo a home of her own. There won’t be a day without a smile or a giggle with Bugsy in your life.”
