Stray Dog Fends Off Leopard Attack In Nature Reserve
A group of sightseers in India captured a tense stand-off between a stray dog and a leopard that wandered onto a safari road.
While tourists were out on a mud track at Jhalana Forest Reserve in Rajasthan state, India, a stray dog from a local village lounged on a trail and blocked their path.
Amused onlookers were filming the sleepy dog, but did not expect what happened next.
A leopard – named Juliet by park officials – suddenly appeared out of nowhere and pounces upon the dog. The startled dog immediately bolts awake and barks at the big cat.
The dog stands his ground and backs up towards the jeep and Juliet eventually gives up and slinks off into the bushes.
Park officials say the presence of the tourists may have saved the dog’s life.
“Juliet left quietly as there were visitors in jeeps behind the dog. If not, it is unlikely that the dog would have survived the encounter,” an official said.
According to TimesNewsNow, after the face-off, the driver and the tourists took the brave dog to a forest check post.
