Stray Golden Retriever Found On Side of The Road in Desperate Shape
A stray Golden Retriever on her last legs has found the perfect family and it all began when a mail carrier in Dayton, Texas reached out for help after seeing the dog in terrible condition on the side of the road. Kristin with StreetHeartsTX answered the call. The dog rescuer drove out to search for the Golden Retriever and after 30 minutes of looking, she spotted her wandering along the road.
The dog stopped in her tracks and looked right at her, so Kristin continued to approach her.
Kristin couldn’t believe what she was seeing. The Golden Retriever had a swollen underbelly and rear end and was having difficulty walking. Kristin knew right away the dog was not pregnant but didn’t know what was wrong with her. Thankfully, the dog was gentle and knew she was there to help so she came along willingly.
Kristin knew she couldn’t care for “Sydney” alone so she immediately began reaching out to rescues and Lola’s Lucky Day responded to her plea.
Once at the vet, they discovered the dog had severe hematomas and they drained nearly 4 litres of blood! Sydney’s tail was also detached and had to be removed. The hematomas were likely from an old broken pelvis that was never treated. Sydney also had mange and heart worm to be treated but she went into a wonderful foster home and made a full recovery.
Shortly after, Sydney was listed for adoption and found a perfect home with a repeat adopter who has other Golden Retrievers. Sydney’s life has completely changed from the day she was picked up and that’s thanks to a group effort, but also thanks to Kristin for taking the time to go out and save her.
StreetHeartsTX rescues and fosters dogs and has been doing so for 9 years. In 2023, Kristin was able to expand her rescue efforts after her family completed building a home on their property where they can take care of the stray dogs.
Here is a heartwarming video of how the first year with their foster dog building has gone. It started with Neo, Sydney was #10. 2023 wrapped up with 42 dogs rescued!
@streetheartstx We started out 2023 finishing up our foster dog building. It didn’t take long for it to house its very first guest, Neo. Can you guess how many dogs we were able to help this year? Some only needed us for a few nights and some up to 6 months. I know sometimes people see the dogs we rescue and think we do this alone but that’s far from the truth. The support this year has been unbelievable! Our foster dogs have been stocked on dog food, treats and toys all year! When funds are needed for treatments or surgeries, you guys come through for them. Transporters to/from vet visits. I can’t thank everyone enough. You all play a crucial part in their rescue ❤️ I’m so thankful for the rescue organizations that helped each of these dogs find homes whether it be local or out of state. Absolutely can’t do this alone!
