Stray Puppy So Sick She Couldn’t Open Her Eyes Brought Back to Life
A sick puppy abandoned at a military camp in Greece has made a remarkable recovery thanks to the loving and patient care of her rescuers.
A soldier spotted Valia and alerted a friend, who then posted about her online. Ermioni with Diasoza Animal Rescue (DAR Rescue) was notified right away and she rushed to the location, but the dog was nowhere to be found.
“All credit to the camp Commander and his team who showed tremendous sensitivity and mobilized the entire camp until the dog was found. And we got her,” Ermioni wrote on Facebook.
Valia was covered with severe mange and unable to open her eyes. She was also so severely malnourished that she was close to death. “All she wanted to do was sleep and eat for the first weeks without feeling fear, without feeling hungry, without feeling like dying,” Ermioni said.
But as the weeks went on Valia started to trust them and know she was safe. She could still only hang her head and was incredibly weak even after several weeks of recovery. But she was able to go on slow walks around the vet hospital. The treatment started to take effect and her eyes opened, revealing a pair of beautiful golden eyes.
“It wasn’t easy to bring her back to life , it took many weeks,” Ermioni wrote. But the pup, who is maybe around 10 months old, has gone through a big change! Her fur has grown back and she has regained her energy. She even wanted to play with the kitten visiting the clinic.
Valia is now at DAR Rescue’s shelter and up for adoption. DAR Rescue wrote, “She is a kind, beautiful, and playful girl who is ready to find her forever home.”
They are asking for people to consider a small donation to help them continue rescuing and caring for dogs like Valia.
