Sweet Pit Bull Mix Nobody Wanted Waited 6 Years in Shelter Until His Dreams Came True
This is a beautiful rescue story of a homeless dog who spent six years in a municipal shelter and couldn’t find a family until one day his luck changed. Rufo, a Pit bull mix, was dropped at Yonkers municipal shelter when he was one year old. For the next six years, he got two hours of exercise every day, but he spent the remainder of his day in a kennel.
The Yonkers Shelter worked hard to keep Rufo mentally and physically healthy throughout all those years and never gave up hope of finding him a home one day.
Then one day, the shelter’s dreams were answered.
After Rufo was adopted, people who met him noticed he would become super excited every time he saw a dog. But he hadn’t really interacted with other dogs too much during his long stay in the shelter. “Rufo loves people but the Yonkers Animal Shelter worried he might be ‘dog aggressive’,” his rescuers wrote. In order to find out, they turned to Clem, a seven-month-old puppy, for help.
They shared a follow-up video to Rufo’s rescue to show how that play date went.
From the looks of it, things went really well. It’s a credit to both the Yonker’s shelter and Rufo’s rescuers that Rufo is so well adjusted. It also goes to show, there is always hope for a shelter dog like Rufo if people open their hearts.
What a beautiful rescue story! There’s always hope for dogs like Rufo, if people are generous with their time and their hearts!
