Sweet Pittie Watches Expectantly as Other Dogs at Shelter Find Homes
Kaki Taylor just couldn’t take seeing Chauncey being looked over any more. In her eyes, the 2-year-old Terrier/Pittie mix is simply “precious” so she couldn’t understand why no one had adopted her. And as it happens, one day while volunteering at the Spartanburg Humane Society in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Taylor captured a photo of Chauncey that would change the cute pittie’s life.
Chauncey was peeking through an opening in her kennel, staring expectantly out at whomever was walking by. Tyalor posted the photo on Facebook and wrote, “For goodness sake, somebody adopt Chauncey. She’s tired of seeing dog after dog strut by her on their way to a new home with a new family. She’s just fed up. She wants a home.” She added the shelter’s phone number and hoped something would change.
Chauncey’s photo struck a cord online and the Facebook post went viral being shared over 15,000 times!
Angel Cox, CEO of the Spartanburg Humane Society, shared with the Dodo that Chauncey was one of the staff and volunteer favorites but she could be shy with all the noise and activity at the shelter.
“Chauncey is very shy until she gets to know you,” Cox said. “So with all the barking and constant activity at the shelter, she kind of watched the world go by.”
However, one family saw the post about Chauncey on Facebook and scheduled a visit. Chauncey jumped at the chance and showered them with her affectionate personality.
“She sold herself right away,” Cox said. “She is a very loving dog and won them over with her sweetness.”
Cox said that everyone at the shelter is very happy that Chauncey has found a loving home. She said, “It is definitely bittersweet when they get adopted, but we are always happy deep down inside.”
With Chauncey on her way to her happy ending, Spartanburg Humane Society and Taylor are focused on the other sweet, deserving dogs who need homes.
There’s Christopher who has been in their shelter for a year. “I can’t understand why Christopher can’t find his new family,” Taylor wrote. “He’s been at the Spartanburg Humane Society for about a year now but was going thru heartworm treatment. He was so sickly and frail when he came in. But SHS has done wonders and he’s ready for a new home, new playmates and a new life.”
And there’s Handsome Cash. “He’s a 3 year old pitty who came in as a stray in February. His middle name should be Dunkin cause he looks like his head was dunked in some white paint or something lol. He’s a good boy tho. He’s just the right size at almost 60lbs. He walks good on a leash an loves to play. He would do better in a home with no cats an is recommended to meet any future fur siblings before going home. He loves treats an is easy going with new an familiar people.”
