Teacher Rescues Stray Dog Hiding in Ferns on Her Patio

Brooklyn Henderson never expected to find a stray dog hiding in her ferns late one night. Living in the countryside of Bossier Parish, Louisiana, she was used to the sounds of wildlife at night, but when she heard rustling outside as she headed to her car, she decided to investigate.

Expecting to see a raccoon or another small animal, she turned on her camera only to be met with two gleaming eyes. But instead of a wild animal, it was a thin, flea-covered black dog. Nervous yet eager for attention, the pup cautiously scooted over to her.

Brooklyn captured the moment on video and shared it on TikTok.

Brooklyn decided to foster her, naming her Birdy. But it wasn’t long before Birdy became a permanent part of the family. Birdy quickly bonded with Brooklyn’s children and her other dog, Cash and that’s when Brooklyn knew Birdy wasn’t going anywhere.

She told Newsweek, “She was just like a little baby and she would fall asleep next to me or I’d find her curled up at the end of one of my kids’ beds. One day, I just knew I couldn’t let her go because she needs us. And I didn’t realize how much we needed her; Cash, my miniature Aussie, included.”

Birdy may have been looking for shelter that night, but what she found was a forever home.
