Terrified Puppy Climbs into Rescuer’s Lap and Falls Asleep
A terrified stray puppy went from fearful of being hurt to wanting to be loved just a few hours after her rescue. A family found the small bully mix curled up on the doorstep of their house so they reached out to Stray Rescue of St. Louis for help.
“We received a call that a small dog showed up on someone’s porch,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis wrote in a Facebook video. “They thought she might be injured because she wouldn’t get up.”
When Donna Lochmann, Chief Life Saving Officer, arrived at the home the dog growled at her as she approached. The puppy was so frightened.
But Donna continued to approach the puppy, slowly throwing treats and softly speaking to her. When she got close enough, she was able to slip a lead around the dog’s neck after which “we told her we would never ever hurt her.”
“Babbit” wasn’t ready to trust her rescuers yet and reluctantly went to the van. But “on her freedom ride she began to settle down and breathe,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis said.
As she began to realize she was safe, Babbit relaxed even more. By the time they arrived at the shelter, she was so relieved, she let her guard down.
“She climbed into one of our volunteers’ laps and fell asleep, and that moment was so beautiful and sad,” the rescue group wrote in a Facebook update. “All she wanted was kindness, and to be deprived of that until now breaks our heart.”
When she woke up they gave her a bath and Babbit felt happy. Thankfully, Babbit found a foster family quickly where she joined another puppy who sure looks a lot like her.
“Babbit has been cuddling with them on the couch, and she loves their little dog — her twin!” Stray Rescue wrote. “Look at these two, they are perfect together!”
Stray Rescue continued, “This tiny little dog was so fearful of being hurt by us when we first met her, and to see her craving comfort just a few hours later is just heartbreaking. Dogs don’t ask for much and in return they give you so much love and loyalty.”
We know Babbit will find a family who will give her all the love she deserves.
