Tiny Dog Adorably Climbs on Golden Retriever’s Back to Get Treats

Dogs are incredibly clever and resourceful when it comes to getting treats. They just seem to know exactly what to do to snag themselves a delicious snack whether that be sneakily navigating onto the counter to grab a steak or outsmarting their siblings. The majority of dogs have figured out that begging also works most of the time. A dog named Bella does that but she has added an extra “oomph” to the tried and true technique.

Adriana Burkhart shared Bella’s adorable begging technique on Twitter (now X) along with photos of her family’s other dog Hank. Why is Hank included? Well, that’s because Bella sits on top of the Golden Retriever to get closer to the humans handling the food.

Adriana tweeted, “Can we just talk about how my dog begs for food?”

Bella uses Hank like a “stepping stool” but he doesn’t mind one bit. Adriana, who is a university student at Michigan State University, explains that when she goes home to visit her family she always brings along Bella. Bella loves hanging out with her family’s four other dogs, especially Hank who dotes on her. That’s why he doesn’t seem to mind being Bella’s personal ladder.

A few years ago, Adriana noticed that Bella was climbing onto Hank to get onto the couch. It “kind of escalated” from there and now Bella regularly rides on Hank’s back. The smitten Hank doesn’t mind one bit.

“I go home all the time, and the moment Bella walks through the door, [she] and Hank go CRAZY,” Adriana told Buzzfeed News. “They just hang out all day, which in turn means she rides him around the house.”

Although Bella is the smallest dog in the house, having Hank as her personal chauffeur means she gets noticed. That in turn means extra attention…and food.

“Whenever we’re making food, she uses Hank to get a better vantage point so she can be closer to the counter,” said Adriana. “She’s got a pretty good puppy dog eye, so they both end up getting treats whenever that happens.”

After posting her pictures to Twitter (X), someone asked Adriana if Bella and Hank do their routine often, to which she responded “Oh yes…a common occurrence.”

What do the other dogs think of the duo’s arrangement? From the looks of things Frank the pug might just be a little bit jealous of Bella’s extra treat leverage.

But Frank is out of luck when it comes to being carried around by Hank. Adriana points out that Frank is “a good pupper who is too old and big to ride the beast.”

As for what Hank gets out of the arrangement, one he gets treats too. And two we think that Hank being Golden Retriever just means heloves being helpful for his family and friends, are we right?
