Woman Finds Skinny Puppy on Her Front Porch after Dropping Her Kids Off at School
After dropping her kids off at school, Leilani Slocumb headed back home expecting the morning to be like every other one. Instead, she ended up rescuing a fur kid desperately in need of help.
As she approached her front porch, she noticed a shape lying on her doormat. The shape lifted its head when she got closer and she recognized it was a very skinny dog.
“Hey buddy, what’s wrong? You hungry?” she asked the dog gently. The dog got up and started to run away but Slocumb held out some food and spoke softly, telling the dog she had food for him.
The dog couldn’t resist and tentatively approached her. When he began eating, Slocumb could see how thin the dog was. “Oh my gosh, you poor thing,” Slocumb said, sympathetically.
“It broke my heart seeing this dog in such bad shape,” she wrote on the TikTok video she shared.

Slocumb ended up getting the dog some hash browns to eat as well and let her family know about their unexpected visitor. The next video she shared shows her husband and stepdaughter giving the poor dog a bath outside. She said the dog was frightened of them at first but soon began to enjoy the attention.
“He has really warmed up to us and is doing well,” Slocumb commented on TikTok.

They scheduled a vet visit for him for the following day because of his emaciated condition and the scabs on his body.
Upon taking him to the vet, the dog was scanned for a microchip. And because one was found, he remained with the vet so that the owners could be contacted. But the outcome didn’t quite go as expected.
“He stayed at the vet because they found a chip and his owner had to be contacted before they could give him back to them,” Slocumb explained in a caption on a follow-up video. “The owner finally got back in touch with the vet and said they gave the dog away 6 months ago and haven’t seen him since. They also said they didn’t know the name of the person they gave him to and that we could have him if we wanted him.”
Slocumb and her family had a decision to make. “We told the vet we would take him and to go ahead with all the care he needed,” she said. And just like that, they got a new family member.
The family named the dog “Bo” and took him home. (Tiktok viewers wanted the family to name the dog “Hashbrown”, but “Bo” it is.) He’s got a case of mange, so he’s receiving antibiotics, got his vaccines and medication for fleas, and is already feeling a whole lot better. The vet says he’s only around a year old.
After the long day at the vet, getting his new name tag, and another bath, Slocumb revealed that Bo is making himself right at home.
“After a long day, we went home and Bo rolled straight in the dirt and was the happiest he has been since he’s been with us,” Slocumb shared. “He knows he is home now.”
